Similar to a lot of families, our clients brief was to transform their existing small 2 bedroom semi into a larger home that would accommodate for a growing family. A core focus of this extension was natural light. Our clients wanted to be sure that the extension would create a dedicated space upstairs for the children that was open with a lot of natural light that also came down the stairs into the main floor of the home.
The extension process involved stripping the roof off the back half of the existing house and constructing the first floor addition timber walls and frames. Next came the Colorbond roof installation, the aluminium windows, and then the sark and clad of the external walls. Whilst the service rough in of electrical and plumbing took place internally, the painters were able to complete the outside areas. With the ceiling and wall insulation batts positioned and plasterboard works completed it was time for the bathroom to be waterproofed and tiled. Finally, the alluring stairs were installed and the internal painting completed to finalise the project.
MATTBUILD Group have completed numerous extensions in Sydney’s Inner West and this was another great project to complete. Some stand out features of the project include the first floor addition hosting two bedrooms, a lounge room and a bathroom all with large windows to meet the client brief and deliver a maximum amount of natural light into the home. Another stand out feature was the steel stringer for the stairs with solid American oak stair treads, that combined with the three evenly spaced skylights above, flood the stairwell area with natural light.
The key features of this extra living space included;
- Separate living levels for the kids (and the parents)
- Wall garden / planter box to the 1st floor level rear external wall
- Open riser stairs to give a feel of space throughout the ground floor
